                         * Delphine d'Amarzit, Head of Multilateral Affairs & Development, Directorate General of the Treasury, France
                         * Patrick Kron, CEO, Alstom

Overview:
Effective governance without ethics is proving impossible. It is no longer sufficient for businesses simply to comply with laws and regulations. A new, cooperative dialogue between governments and businesses must develop, as demonstrated in November 2010, when the G20 approved an anti-corruption action plan reinforcing a stronger cooperation between business and state. In this plenary session, attendees will examine how the G20 and B20 are in a unique position to build partnerships to address corruption and corporate responsibility challenges, and, ultimately, generate a true collective understanding.

Overview:
An increasing number and severity of laws and regulations, as well as public denunciations, have arisen in response to repeated failings by companies to conduct business in an ethical manner. Do these multiple requirements and demands exceed the capabilities, and even the purpose, of for-profit corporations? Has an expectation gap developed between what ethics and compliance programs are accomplishing and what their multiple stakeholders believe they should accomplish? This plenary session will examine the consequences of this expectation gap and what must be done to align the needs of the public and the realities of business.

Overview:
Significant progress in business ethics and corporate governance has occurred over the past few decades. Most large companies have established ethics and compliance programs and dedicated noteworthy resources to their continual improvement. Forward-thinking organizations conduct regular risk assessments and adjust their programs accordingly.

Many businesses still lack, however, the integration of ethics and values into their business strategies and often find themselves a step behind emerging global and internal risks. Join us as we glimpse into the future and ask: will 2015, and beyond, see corporate ethics strategy become proactive or will it remain in the realm of reactive risk management?
